How does the pantry work?
First time user:
- Bring your student OneCard and a copy or photo of your class schedule to The W. A class schedule is required every semester.
- A profile is created in The W's management system
- Select items from the menu
- Items are collected by volunteer staff
- Items are weight and given to client
Returning user:
- Bring your student OneCard. A class schedule is required once every semester
- Select items from the menu
- Istems are collected by volunteer staff
- Items are weighed and give to client
Who can use the pantry?
The W provides services for currently enrolled Wayne State students.
How many times can I use the pantry?
Students are able to access the pantry once every two weeks.

How often can I get feminine hygiene products?
Anytime you need them. It doesn not count as a visit if you only get feminine hygiene products.
What should I bring?
- OneCard
- Copy or photo of your class schedule if you're a first-time user or if it's your first time that semester
- Reusable bag if you're a returning client. First-time clients will be given a bag.
When and why did the pantry start?
The W Food Pantry opened April 2, 2017 to reduce food and other insecurities amongst WSU students.
Where is the pantry located?
703 W. Kirby St. Detroit, MI 48202 – First Floor of Towers Retail Space by Dunkin' Donuts.
Who runs the pantry (students, administration, both, other)?
The W is a program under the Dean of Students Office led by a coordinator and consists of a 12 person leadership team.
What days/times of the week is the food pantry open?
In the fall, we are open Sundays 2pm-6pm and Monday thru Thursday 4pm-8pm. Our Spring/Summer hours are Monday thru Thursday 1pm-5pm.
